Description
Summary:This hermeneutic phenomenological study explored the lived experience of teacher leaders in Mandaluyong City. In particular, the aim of the study was to examine the first-hand experience of teacher leaders. The participants of the study came from different divisions in the basic education department of a specific university in Mandaluyong City. There were two (2) from the elementary, two (2) from the junior high school, and another two (2) from the senior high school. In gathering the data, the researcher listened to the voices of the participants who were identified by using a nomination guide from the researcher and the Teacher Leadership Self-Assessment which was a self-reflection instrument for teachers. The data collection tools which were utilized in the study were the following: in-depth interview, presentation of artwork, and focus group discussion. From the findings, the significant responses, meaning units, and emerging themes were presented. All the participants of the study were aware that they are teacher leaders. From the lived experience of the participants, the researcher found out that there were eight (8) characteristics that a teacher leader should have: communication, connection, collaboration, respect, role model, influence, follower, and faith in God. These were combined in creating a representation of the essence of becoming a great teacher leader.
