Summary:This study aimed to provide a profile on the number sense competency of first year students of selected public high schools in Las Piñas City using the results obtained from the Number Sense Test. A total of 123 respondents consisting of homogeneous and heterogeneous groups participated in the survey The mean score of 23.45 (s.d., 8.17) for the Number Sense Test (80 points possible maximum score) shows that the students’ number sense competency level is poor. Analysis of the results also showed that the respondents had difficulty in all of the components and domains of the number sense, particularly in understanding the meaning and effect of operations and on fraction respectively where less than 30% of the respondents got the correct answers. Results also showed that there was no significant gender difference on the number sense proficiency of the students.
