Description
Summary:This study proposes a five-year institutional development plan for Benedictine Abbey School, San Beda Alabang (BAS), for the school year 1987-1992. The development planning design was used to survey and analyze the needs. The descriptive-normative approach was utilized as a technique to cover the following processes: a. the environmental analysis and institutional assessment of Benedictine Abbey School (BAS) b. the prioritization and matching of needs using descriptive data of trends and averages c. actual planning process using descriptive-normative or nominal data d. the establishment of plans and programs based on needs prioritized and e. the institution of implementation and evaluation strategies. The data gathered for the study came from the municipal records of Muntinlupa and Paranaque, and from the surveys accomplished by the parents, students, administrators and faculty of the school during the school year 1986-87. The following research instruments and processes were used to gather the data on institutional operations for the past 5 years: Socio-economic Survey of BAS clients, School Selection and Preference Survey, Mission Statement Survey Questionnaire, Checklist on Educational Goals, Faculty Development Needs Inventory, PAASCU Self-Survey Forms, Enrolment Projection and Cohort Analysis, Financial Analysis and Projection, and Planning. The statistical treatment used frequencies and percentages for the socio-economic survey, and school selection and preference survey. Mean ratings were computed for the survey on mission statement and educational goals. The PAASCU self-survey forms were used to assess the status of the various areas and the mean ratings for each were computed. The historical trends of the promotion, repetition, and drop-out rates were the basis for projecting enrolment. The financial projections on the other hand, were based on the financial profile and projected enrolment, considering a 10-15 percent tuition increase and a minimum 5 percent inflation. The analysis of the enviroment of BAS revealed that an effective linkage system can be established to ensure a relevant existence of BAS. The over-all rating of 3.91 for the grade school and 4.06 in the high school, both within the category Good - Very Good , signified the extent to which BAS strived to provide a high standard of education to its students. The operations of the school would have to be supported by funds other than tuition and fees. The achievement of the mission can be done more effectively if the means to do it were well-planned and organized. The proper implementation of the plan required the cooperative-participative effort and committed action of all sectors of the community.
