Summary: | 1st work. This is a study of the teachers' perception of development needs necessary in developing, improving, and increasing teaching competency and effectiveness. The main purpose of the study was to determine and analyze the degree of development needs perceived by teachers as needed for them to become competent and effective teachers. Fifteen high school teachers of St. Scholastica's Academy were made available for the study. They held sessions to discuss what are the development needs that teachers have to meet to become competent and effective, and at the same time enhance their professional growth and development. Two instruments were used for the study. They were a personal information sheet and a questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed particularly for the high school teachers of the school. It was the main research tool used in the study. It contained twenty-two development needs which teachers would need to become competent and effective, and at the same time enhance their professional growth and development. For the statistical treatment, the t-test was used. -- 2nd work. The heart of any school is its faculty. The institution is good or bad, effective or ineffective depending upon the kind of faculty it has. Because of the absence of a Faculty Development Program, the development needs of teachers are not identified and met, and therefore, teaching competency and effectiveness suffers, faculty standards cannot improve, and consequently, goals are not achieved, thus affecting the student, the teacher, and the school as a whole. The Faculty Development Program was conceptualized after a study was made on teachers perception of development needs for teaching competency and effectiveness. The proposed program is designed primarily for the High School teachers of St. Scholastica's Marikina. It is not exhaustive of a complete Faculty Development Program.
