Summary: | This investigation was undertaken to determine the level of academic achievement of the sophomores in Song-sim High School, Korea, and its relationship with intelligence, parental educational attainment and personality. A sample population of 120 out of 243 sophomores were obtained at random from the Science and Humanities departments of Song-sim high School, Seoul, Korea to be the subjects of this study. Their ages range from 16 to 17. All the needed data were gathered with the assistance of the guidance counselor who assumed the responsibility of conducting the Korean Intelligence Test, the Korean Personality Test and sending to the researcher in the Philippines, the test results, together with the first semester grades of the subjects, and the data on parental educational attainment. Frequency counts, means, percentages, and percentile scores were used for the analyses and interpretation of results. To determine the correlation between academic performance and the selected variables, the Pearson Product Moment Correlation was employed. For prediction purposes, the Stepwise Multiple Regression equation was made. All data were computerized for expediency and accuracy of results.Based on the findings the following characteristics of the subjects were found: Their academic achievement is within the below average range. Their intelligence test scores reveal that they were average in intellectual functioning. Their personality test scores cluster within the 50th percentile, indicating that they do not need special attention. Parental educational attainment had a low but significant correlation with students' academic achievement. Personality traits of objectivity and reflectiveness had slight but significant co |
