Summary: | This study develops and evaluates a laboratory manual in College Physics I which covers mainly Mechanics and Thermodynamics. This laboratory manual is intended for use of engineering students of Northwestern University, Laoag City. The research gathered and studied the syllabi of College Physics I used by Physics instructors of Northwestern University and also surveyed the different apparatus and equipment in the school. These were the basis in selecting the topics to be covered in the manual. After the design of all the experiments, the manual was subjected to evaluation by both instructors and students. This study made use of sets of questionnaires. The manual was assessed in terms of the above mention aspects. Responses of the students and instructors were gathered and categorized according to the degree of agreement and disagreement of the items elicited in the questionnaires. Respondents of this study consisted of forty-four (44) college engineering students and seven (7) instructors of the College of Engineering of Northwestern University. The evaluation responses were gathered and analyzed in terms of mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study were:1. The students had agreeable responses on the usefulness and relevance of the laboratory manual.2. The students agreed that the laboratory manual is very appropriate for instructions.3. The instructors strongly agreed that the laboratory manual is very appropriate for instruction.
The following conclusions were drawn fron the study:1. The students found the laboratory manual developed useful and relevant, appropriate for instruction, and yielded interest and participation pf the students in studying the course.2. The instructors found the laboratory manual to be useful and relevant, very comprehensive and appropriate for instructions in College Physics I. The researcher recommended that the laboratory manual developed in this investigation should be used by the physics students in Northwestern University in order to validate the results of the study. Further, teachers should be encouraged to use the laboratory manual in their teaching of physics to make the course more interesting and meaningful to learn. |
