The respondents were the eighty public secondary school teachers in the said division. These subjects handled the SEDP Mathematics II in their respective school assignments. A 50-item Comprehensive test was developed and validated by the researcher. The test covered the topics prescribed in the desired learning competencies for SEDP Mathematics II. This test was designed to determine teachers' preparedness to teach the content covered in this mathematics level as well as the degree of their mastery of the subject matters involved. To describe the profile of the respondents, a personal data questionnaire was also administered to them.Statistical measures were used as mean, standard deviation and percentages to describe the respondents' preparedness to teach the SEDP Mathematics II in terms of their knowledge of the content. Levels of preparedness were categorized into HIGHLY PREPARED, MODERATELY PREPARED, and UNPREPARED. Majority of the respondents are married females, who have experienced teaching secondary mathematics for quite a number of years. Most of them are Bachelor of Science in Education degree holders major in Mathematics and are generally academically qualified. The test results revealed that 27 percent of the respondents are HIGHLY PREPARED, 49 percent are MODERATELY PREPARED and 24 percent are UNPREPARED to teach the SEDP Mathematics II. Topics involving Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities, Linear Relations, and Measures in Statistics were considered difficult by the respondents. In the light of the findings of the study, it can be concluded that although the teachers are academically qualified and that most of them have taught for quite a number of years already, they still need to be reinforced more on topics concerning functional relationships in Algebra and Geometry especially on topics identified as difficult. It is recommended that an investigation on the relationship between the teachers' profile and preparedness in teaching the mathematics content in an integrated program in other year levels be conducted. Further study may also be conducted to determine the effects of the mass training programs, refresher lessons, reinforcement and retraining programs for in-service teachers. 1991-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1491 Master's Theses English Animo Repository Mathematics -- Study and teaching Educational program Education Secondary High school teachers Curriculum and Instruction Educational Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Educational Methods Science and Mathematics Education |
