Summary: | This study develops a five-year development program based on the needs assessment survey for the two SPC Schools in Indonesia. Three dimensions of development were the bases of the organizational development. The survey revealed that the teachers needed to continually update themselves in (1) recent innovations in teaching methodology, (2) evaluating instructional results, (3) preparing effective instructional materials, and (4) developing skills in simple research. For personal development, there was a need for a more in-depth orientation to positive values and attitudes that would help teachers become value models as Christian educators. With regard to organizational development, there was an apparent need for principals and teachers to understand the school as a social system and an organization committed to goals and objectives. There should exist a good and healthy interpersonal relationships among the members of the institutions for the stability and survival of the organization. The perceptions of the administrators and the teachers were more or less, congruent on the three areas of concern, namely: (1) personal, (2) professional, and (3) organizational development. Teachers, as a whole, considered their professional development as their foremost need. This was followed by personal development and by organizational development.
It is recommended that:1. Goals and objectives of faculty development programs should be planned based on needs assessment 2. Future development programs should include research orientation, simple research design and methodology, and the results of research to improve instruction and,3. Faculty development programs of SPC schools in Indonesia should consider the holistic development of the teacher. Evaluation should always be employed. |
