Respondents are Taiwanese senior students from Catholic high schools. The attitudes and motivation towards English of the students were measured directly by means of four series of statements concerning their reactions, perceived proficiency, study skills, and the use of English. English proficiency was assessed by the C-test as suggested by Zoltan Dornyei and Lucy Katona (1992).Results of factor analysis of the motivation questions regarding English showed that several of these motivations were significantly related to English achievement. In general, the statistical results of this survey indicated that most of the Ss' attitudes were more positive than negative. Motivation led more to the instrumental factors than to the integrative factors. The comparison among four Catholic high school institutions in Taipei was significantly different from each other. Based on the perceptions of the teachers, significant differences existed between teaching and learning. 1997-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_masteral/1821 Master's Theses English Animo Repository High school students -- Attitudes High school seniors -- Taipei Motivation (Psychology) English language -- Study and teaching Catholic high schools -- Taipei Language and languages -- Ability testing Education English Language and Literature
