In this cross-sectional study, 311 Filipino undergraduate students completed a 4-part self-administered survey containing scales on perceived stress, academic motivation, and perceived social support from family and friends. The results from the regression and moderation analysis revealed that perceived stress negatively predicts academic motivation, but perceived social support from family and friends did not buffer the relationship between perceived stress and academic motivation. Nonetheless, results showed that perceived social support from family and friends still have a direct and significant effect on one’s academic motivation. The study's findings corroborate earlier studies in the areas of small-scale academic motivation and social support provided by family and friends.
