Description
Summary:Drawing from Trench’s framework, this study investigated the dominant science communication (SciComm) models of the Department of Science and Technology-Forest Products Research and Development Institute’s (DOST-FPRDI) SciComm practices. Through the forest products R&D promotions in pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic, across the DOST-FPRDI’s three core divisions, this study found that the dialogue model dominates the Institute’s SciComm practices. It also revealed that a) SciComm models coexist through the hybridization of face-to-face and virtual conduct of communication activities, b) the emergence of a communication model partially unique to DOST-FPRDI, c) organizational policy influences the dominance of a SciComm model, and d) science’s orientation to the public is linked with the mode of communication. This study likewise produced a two-part video to inform DOST-FPRDI management and researchers on SciComm models and the results with theoretical and literature-based explanations.
