Summary: | The expeditions conducted on Mr. Halcon summit zone in 1994, 1995 and 2004 yielded an interesting collection of Malesian and Asiatic ferns and fern allies. The summit zone covers the area between 1,900 m asl to its peak at 2,582 m asl and is a mosaic of subalpine forests, scrubs and alpine heaths. Most of the species fall under the primitive families Gleicheniaceae, Schizeaceae, Dipeteridaceae, Cyatheaceae, Dicksoniaceae, Plagiogyriaceae, Matoniaceae, and Lycopodiaceae. At least two species have Halcon as type locality (Plagiogyria falcata Copel. and Lycopodium halconense Copel.). Although no species is endemic to Mt. Halcom, a good number of species have a rather restricted distribution. Certain species have proliferated quite well on the summit zone owing to the series of fire occurrences. |
