Trust and participation in a Philippine program for children in need of special protection

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) has emphasized the importance of children’s participation. Among the factors that foster children’s participation, trust emerges as a critical element. This study examines the trust relationship between the nuns, who are the program managers, and children in a residential care for children in need of protection. A review of the Sikolohiyang Pilipino (Philippine Psychology) reveals that the nuns manifest a profound trust where their kindness reflects a harmonious connection with the inner being of the children or pakikipagpalagayang-loob. The research also presents narratives of managers and children which point to the effect of trust on child participation.
