The types of packaging commonly used are non-biodegradable materials such as styrofoam, plastic bags, and plastic eating utensils. Groceries and retail shops, fast food and restaurants, boutiques and gift shops, bakeries and bake shops, beauty salons and spas, service stations and computer/auto/machine repair shops, among other, are the business establishments included in the study. The dynamics of solid waste reduction undertaken by business establishments in Los Baños is discussed using organizational change as the main analytic frame with special focus on the concept of innovation. Emerging practices on packaging will thus be situated in the context of organizational change.
