Description
Summary:The study was conducted to gauge the effects of academic coaching on the writing skills of students measured by 6+1 Writing Traits Model, and to determine student perception on academic coaching. Thirty Grade 7 students from a public high school were coached using the researcher-designed Talk-Examine-Commit-Clarify (TECC) Coaching Model. the study used Pre- and Posttests Writing Prompts, 6+1 Writing Traits Rubric, Pre- and Post-Coaching Survey for Students, and Student Coaching Profile. Results of the repeated measures t-test revealed that academic coaching significantly affects students' writing skills; it improves Conventions, Sentence Fluency, Organization, Voice, Presentation, Ideas, and Word Choice; it is received positively by students; and it can be replicated in public schools. This study recommends that teachers organize academic coaching as a co-curricular program to their existing English subjects and researchers conduct studies to validate the effects of the researcher-designed academic coaching model.
