Employing a mixed-method approach, it utilizes pre-test/ post-test surveys and thematic analysis of reflections. Findings indicate significant enhancements in knowledge application, personal and professional skills, civic engagement, and self-awareness after a yearlong CISID experience. Themes summarized by the PROVEN acronym-practical relevance, rigor, optimal development, vibrant engagement, empathic learning, and nifty course materials and delivery- reinforce the improvements. Despite a limited sample size and the online service-learning context, the research supports extending CISID to various teaching modes, highlighting its potential for fostering comprehensive, empathetic education tailored to complex social challenges.
