What we, the viewers, seek is a narrative—continuities and vitalizing connections—not an itinerary. In the case of Illuminating Rod. Paras-Perez, however, a show where the spotlight is trained on Rod. Paras-Perez’s prints, paintings, sculpture, and mixed media works from the 1960s and 1970s, a curatorial decision to follow chronology derives from the fact that the artist’s crucial awakenings occurred in those decades, when he was to launch and secure his reputation as one of the country’s premier artists.
