| Summary: | The use of ants as indicators of anthropogenic disturbance has yet to be widely explored, moreso in the Philippines. The comparison between humanly disturbed and relatively undisturbed sites provide information about the effects of anthropogenic disturbance on ant species richness. Ant occurrence is significantly low in disturbed sites and 78% of the ants collected were invasive species. Furthermore, 2 invasive species of ants have been collected in the undisturbed sites, suggesting that the diversity in the designated undisturbed sites may soon be in jeopardy. This study further explores the consequences of anthropogenic disturbance on native ant assemblages. |
