Cultural and personal dimensions of upward communication : a comparison of local and multinational American corporations in Singapore.

This paper brings together two determinants of upward communication, organizational culture and personal preferences, and attempts to establish their respective influence on the subordinate's decision to communicate upward. Three elements of upward communication: staff feedback, communication of negative information, and the communication of problems by subordinates to superiors, were examined and a comparison was made between local organizations and multinational American firms based in Singapore. That would allow for evaluations to see if there are differences between the impact of personal preferences and organizational cultures on the respondents from these different organizations.
