| Summary: | This exploratory study aims to examine how the press juggles government expectations and commercial pressures in the context of arts coverage. To achieve this, a content analysis of The Straits Times Life!’s arts coverage from 1995 to 2003 was conducted, together with a series of in-depth interviews with arts reporters and Life! editors. Results showed that despite the increased arts activity, arts coverage in Life! declined. Arts coverage was also not reflective or responsive to the changes in the arts industry, due to commercial reasons. |
