金庸的小说在亚洲和东南亚地区可说是已达到家喻户晓的程度，但在西方国家却远远不及。然而， Anna Holmwood （郝玉青 1986-）所翻译的《射雕英雄传》第一卷英译本于2018年面世后，无论是评价或销售量，都获得了亮眼的成绩，让金庸小说走向西方的道路踏出了一大步。至今有不少论文从语言学、文化、传播影响的方向对该译本进行研究，但却鲜有论文探讨其译作如此成功的原因。 本文将从通俗小说角度，分析译者如何通过不同的策略，确保了译作的易读性和趣味性，满足西方市场的需求。本文内容分成人物塑造、人物的重塑和叙述策略三方面，着重分析译者如何对原作的不同部分进行改写和删减，以达到该译作的翻译目的和交际效果。 Jin Yong's novels are well known in both Asia and Southeast Asia, but not so much in the Western countries. However, Anna Holmwood’s English translation of the “SHE DIAO YING XIONG ZHUAN” that was released in 2018 had achieved dazzling results in the west, both in terms of sales volume as well as reviews from the English readers. It seems that Jin Yong's novels have taken a big step towards the west, thanks to this huge success. So far, many papers have studied the translated novel from the perspective of linguistics, cultural issues, and its transmission and impacts, but few have discussed the reasons for its success. From the perspective of popular novels, this article analyzes how Anna Holmwood uses different strategies to ensure the readability of the novel, as well as making it interesting to read, to meet the demands of the western market. This essay is divided into three aspects: characterization, recreation of characters, and narrative strategies. It focuses on analyzing how Anna Holmwood rewrites and omits parts of the original novel in order to achieve the its intended communicative effect and purpose.
