| Summary: | This study examined the attitudes of primary school teachers towards people with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), in the light of education on human sexuality and safe sexual behaviour. One hundred and thirty-five primary school teachers completed the questionnaire which assessed their attitudes towards the people with HTV. Teachers' knowledge of AIDS transmission, homophobia levels and perception of how people had contracted the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HTV) were the principal variables investigated in this study. This investigation also looked at how teachers' religious faith, age and training in the Sexuality Workshop played a role in influencing their opinion and attitudes towards HIV carriers. Finally, the last part of this study looked at the research findings and their implications on the future direction and planning of the Sexuality Education curriculum in schools, in particular the role of such training in Singapore's education system. |
