面对近代中国所出现的种种国家危机，严复在弥尔自由思想的基础上，运用了中西学融合的方式，形成独特的个人权界论说，实现救国之理想。其论说以西学抨击中国传统文化，也同时以中国传统文化来宣扬西学，因而起到了连续中国传统文化之作用。本文将先阐述严复兼具中西思想的个人权界论，并分析其思想产生的时代背景以及严复的个人生平，从而理解其个人权界论里的中国传统连续性之缘由，而后探讨其中国传统文化连续性的时代意义。 In the midst of the turbulent times of modern China, Yen Fu built upon John Stuart Mill’s ideas of liberty, and incorporated it with his understanding of traditional Chinese culture, forming his unique interpretation of liberty. Within Yen Fu’s ideas of liberty, he used western philosophy to criticize the traditional Chinese culture. But at the same time, he also utilized the teachings from the various schools of thought in Chinese philosophy to advocate his ideas of liberty. And through this process, it has brought forth the traditional Chinese culture continuity element hidden under his ideas. The paper will first elaborate on Yen Fu’s ideas of liberty and its unique characteristics. This article also aims to explore the traditional Chinese culture continuity in Yen Fu’s ideas of liberty by first understanding the historical and personal context that has shaped his ideas, and then discussing its significance to modern China.
