Accordingly, the discussion will cover
the ideal role of a king and its courtiers, with the consideration of the influence of human relationship in his political ideals. Then, the paper will turn to guiding beliefs that Ouyang Xiu had that resulted in his political ideals, where his method and stand on Chinese classics will be introduced as a basis to understand his “Zhengtong” (正统) theory and thoughts on historical changes. With the political ideals and grounds of such ideals being explored, it necessarily reveals a deeper nature of Ouyang Xiu’s political thoughts, that is his pursue of truth and selfrealisation of such truth. From this understanding, it could also be used to shed further light on the dispute between Classical-Prose scholars and Neo-Confucianism scholars. |
