Summary: | This research paper proposes a study of how journalists in Singapore used computer-assisted reporting (CAR) in their work. The paper commences by noting that there are virtually no research done on such use by journalists in Singapore. In particular, the paper looks at how 78 journalists respond to a survey on their use of hardware (in terms of portables) and software, as well as their use of on-line database research services and the Internet. Results showed that almost all journalists surveyed used only the word proccssors, the WWW as a tool of thc Internet, and in-house database services. This paper concludes with the observation of education institutions training future journalists in CAR, and proposes a possible trend analysis ofjournalists’ usage of CAR in the future. |
