Description
Summary:Music is a part of everyday life. This is especially true for adolescents, who through their growing up process, rely on music for various purposes. This exploratory study examined the consumption of music by Singaporean adolescents, together with their music preferences and usage. Data were collected primarily from a focus group interview and a survey of 300 school children. Analysis of data showed that adolescents in Singapore consumed an average of more than two hours of music daily, with heavy preference for two music genres, pop and dance & techno music. Age and gender effects in their preferences of music genres and music usage were also discovered and discussed.
