Summary: | The Covid-19 Pandemic has drastically changed the way education is conducted in Singapore. Tertiary institutions like Nanyang Technological University (NTU) were no exception. During the Circuit Breaker period, students were not allowed to go to school. Classes were brought online and conducted using Web-Conferencing technologies like Zoom. As Circuit Breaker measures gradually eased, hybrid classes were introduced to balance between the need for physical interaction and Social Distancing. Nevertheless, the need for Social Distancing remains due to precautionary reasons thus online classes and here to stay, at least for the near future.
That being said, online classes bring about many benefits such as increased convenience and flexibility for both students and tutors alike. However, not all educational services in NTU adopted these technologies in their daily processes. Notably, NTU’s School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering Student Life Development Unit SEENIORS Program, a relatively young peer tutoring scheme aimed at helping academically challenged students in school of EEE, currently only conducts its classes physically. If this program could provide a virtual option, tutors and tutees will not only experience lower risk of exposure to the virus, but also enjoy the benefits of increased convenience and accessibility for additional education resources.
Thus, this project aims to bring online classes to the existing SEENIORS Program while introducing new features that strives to improve and automate existing administrative processes, provide an online platform for Tutee and Tutors to manage and schedule classes according to their availability, and ultimately help academically challenged students in NTU. |
