Description
Summary:This project was undertaken with the intention of designing and developing a casual mobile game simulating daily life while simultaneously dealing with the fallout from the current global pandemic. As a team of three, we decided to use an alternate fantasy reality to juxtapose against our realistic experiences, and each played different roles with regards to this project, ranging from brainstorming ideas, graphic design, and final development. The game is implemented using the Unity2D Game Engine (2020.1.8f1), with its graphics digitally illustrated in Procreate 5. The portion of the game that we have completed so far consists of the first chapter out of three planned, and this includes a general game environment and four minigames – cleaning, cooking, drawing, and gardening. This paper will focus on the overall graphics of the games and the implementation of the cleaning minigame. Research has shown that games have a positive impact in reducing levels of stress and anxiety, and this is exceptionally apt in a time where people all around the world have had to adapt to mandatory lockdowns and a stark decrease in social contact. With this game, we aim to alleviate the distress caused by the pandemic and bring a bit of levity to our audience.
