Description
Summary:Metamaterials are materials that are structurally engineered to exhibit properties that do not exist in nature. An example of metamaterial is the negative index material. One of the applications of negative index material is in the area of cloaking. There are many shapes and patterns that have been theorized and shown to exhibit negative index. One of them is the multi-layered structure of alternating layers of ferrite and another material, such as metal, dielectric or superconductor. In this project, a single layer of ferrite will be fabricated. Physical properties will be characterized using scanning electron microscope, x-ray diffractometer and profile meter. Two types of ferrite film was created, the BaFe11CoO19 film and BaFe9(Ti0.5Co0.5)3O19 film. They were annealed at different temperatures and tested. The feasibility of using BaFe9(Ti0.5Co0.5)3O19 as a multi-layered structure will be examined.
