新加坡自1965年建国以来出产了许多围绕新加坡书写的本地作家。谢裕民是新华文学场域最具有代表性的作家之一。他的文学书写从1970年代至今，横跨两个时代使得他的作品与新加坡同步发展，见证了新加坡独立以来的国家建设与社会变化。谢裕民的文学创作、对新加坡的再现与批判，反映了他对于这片土地的关怀。本文试图以文本细读的方式阅读并分析他的作品，以便深入了解与梳理他对于身份的探讨和新加坡社会的批判之间的复杂关系。本文将把谢裕民的四本小说：《重构南洋图像》、《M40》、《放逐与追逐》和《建国》放置在新加坡的社会历史语境中，通过文本细读与文化理论，从历史、国家与性别三个层面展开讨论。本文将通过历史、国家和性别这三个研究视角进行分析。 首先，本文会通过《重构南洋图像》里的<岛屿前身>出发，探讨作者如何通过碎片化历史的再创造去再现新加坡。在此也会对文本里的实体家园与想象家园进行比较。接着，进一步考究文本如何关联并有助于讨论作为新加坡华人的文化身份。再来，本文将对谢氏的最新出版的长篇小说《建国》（Kian Kok）紧密地与新加坡的社会历史背景贴合，探讨国家与个人的关系。这个文本里“建国”具有个人与国家的双重指涉。最后，本文将会探讨他小说中对女性和男性角色的刻画，展开当今新加坡现代化与资本主义社会如何挑战传统性别角色。 Singapore has gained independence in 1965, since then, Singapore has nurtured many local writers who write in and about Singapore. Chia Joo Ming is one of the most prominent authors of Singapore’s contemporary Chinese literature. His works, spanning from the 1970s until today, developed in tandem with Singapore, witnessing nation-building and societal progression since her independence. Through Chia’s works of fiction, representations of Singapore alongside a critique of the Singaporean identity can be observed. Hence, a close reading of his work provides insight into the complex relationship between his writing on national identity and the critical consciousness of Singaporean society. This paper will investigate his novels through the lenses of History, Nation and Gender. It will first delve into the displaced centrality of Chia’s historical writing of Singapore, with the analysis of “Reconstructing Nanyang Image” (Chong Gou Nan Yang Tu Xiang), giving rise to the comparative study between the physical homeland and imaginary homeland in his works. Then it will implicate a consideration on how his works relate and contribute to the discussion on cultural identity as a Singaporean Chinese. Secondly, the paper explores the relationship between nation and individual from his latest award-winning novel “Kian Kok” (Jian Guo) by fitting it closely to the socio-historical context of Singapore. Gender Theory will open up the discussion on how the nation is being represented in his novel. Lastly, the paper looks into the portrayal of female and male characters in his novels and how gender roles are being challenged in modern Capitalist Singaporean society.
