Summary: | This Final Year Project aims to study and employ the technology behind the Wii Remote in the development of different interactive digital media applications on the PC. This report thus serves as an overview of the Wii Remote technology, as well as the theories and implementations of the various software applications developed in this project.
The Wii Remote has introduced a completely different way for users to interact with the screen, with the use of a combination of an accelerometer and an infrared camera that give the controller its motion-sensing capability. This has enabled the user to manipulate using physical gestures in addition to the traditional button presses.
In this project, the Wii Remote has been transformed to serve the function of a music controller for music playback on the PC, a music instrument – the drum set and the guitar in particular, and even a pointing device to play the drum kit. The Nunchuk has also been used to add on to the functionalities of the applications. As such, this project has explored the basic motion-sensing capability of the Wii Remote in developing simple audio applications on the PC. This would serve as a great stepping stone in the understanding of the Wii Remote technology and its development to pick up the pace of innovation. |
