Description
Summary:With how almost everything is done digitally, paperless examinations and assessments are becoming a growing trend. And due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many educational institutions are moving towards online platforms for quizzes and assignments. Shifting to online assessments will benefit greatly as it can be environmentally friendly, and automates the process, which can greatly reduce any human error and save resources. But with all these benefits, it also comes with certain risks and concern. And one real concern is that students might attempt to cheat in exams. With online assessment, it opens up to more new and creative ways for users to take advantage of the system, and together with the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) approach, there are too many open areas. For this Final Year Project, a tablet with the sole function of an exam browser for students to undertake online assessments has been developed and implemented. A Linux system using the Raspberry Pi 4 is built from scratch, along with developing a web browser application where students will use it to access an auto assessment platform to take tests and exams. The exam browser application is developed into kiosk mode such that it prevents users from accessing other areas of the tablet. Users would not be able to quit the application unless they gain access to admin mode through a hidden shortcut and password. The browser would only be able to access the Auto Assessment Platform as well as any whitelisted domains. Lastly, when the tablet is turned on, a camera will be recording as users uses the platform for tests. These can help to prevent and monitor for any academic dishonesty.
