Starting from 2007, Chinese cultural soft power has consistently played a crucial role in China's foreign policy, advocating for exportation through political contexts, cultural exchanges, as well as diplomatic policies. By leveraging its cultural power, the Chinese government has effectively advanced its objective of a peaceful rise in order to increase its discourse power on the global stage. Nonetheless, it is not a coincidence that Thailand has become a cultural consumption for Chinese soft power. With support from the Thai royal family, including Princess Sirindhorn, and the government, business partners, as well as the local Thai-Chinese diaspora, the country’s political background and historical context has also played an essential role in its emergence as a central location for the consumption of Chinese soft power. Accordingly, this article will examine how Chinese soft power has been a powerful political tool in Thailand. Additionally, case study of the Confucius Institutes and Chinese popular culture will be presented to demonstrate the significant consequences of Chinese soft power on Thai society.
