Summary:This paper explores the relationship between Cha Chaan Teng, Hongkonger’s identity, and food culture in the context of Hong Kong. The paper first reviews the history related to the establishment of Cha Chaan Teng, and then turns to the relevance about food culture and identity found in Cha Chaan Teng. In order to explain that Cha Chaan teng are part of the identity of Hongkongers, coupled with the fact that they are an important part of the establishment of Hong Kong's food culture, the paper discusses three main topics: 1) the tangible and intangible Hong Kong food culture 2) the impact that Cha Chaan Teng have had on locals and foreigners 3) how it can move on in globalisation As food (and other cultural elements) has always been a unique cultural heritage, it is crucial to discuss the cultural impact that Cha Chaan Teng brings in Hong Kong for its people.
