In the process, Singapore has tried to reduce or remove “colonial influences”. This includes removing many articles and items with links to the British, such as the vernacular schools and the sole emphasis on Singapore’s colonial history. Yet, after 50 years, socially and culturally, Singapore is still haunted by its colonial past. This topic has become an area of research for researchers in recent years. This essay will use Louis Althusser’s concept of “Interpellation”, Jacques Derrida’s theory of “Deconstruction” and Michel Foucault’s theory of “Power-Knowledge” to analyse the social politics of the Singapore education system, as well as the history curriculum of the Singapore education system to deduce the impact of colonialism on Singapore’s education system, and in turn understand the impact of colonialism on Singapore.
