Summary:Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive method of measuring electrical activity in the brain using electrodes placed on the scalp. It is mosly used in clinical and research settings to investigate brain function, diagnose neurological disorders and monitor brain activity. Brain computer interface (BCI) is a technology that facilitates direct communication between the brain and an external device without the need for any peripheral nerves or muscles. By interpreting brain signals in the form of EEG, BCI can translate them into instructions that control the external device. It has many potential applications such as assistive technology for people with disabilities and gaming. Video games have been a big part of human lives in recent years. However, adoption of BCI is not widespread in mainstream gaming and is largely in the development phase. This could be likely due to the many challenges faced by BCI development. This project will explore the functionality of BCI in games through the development of a 2D roguelike game developed in Unity. The Muse 2 headset will be used to obtain EEG data which would be further interpreted to identify if the player is focused. The player’s focus will have a notable impact on gameplay. The goal would be to enhance player experience with BCI.
