The journey towards remote monitoring and pre-emptive lift maintenance is still a work-in-progress, with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) spearheading a Code of Practice recently in 2022. The main purpose of this project is to study the possibility of administering condition monitoring based on the classification and identification of current and vibration data collected, which can be used as performance indicators for pre-emptive maintenance, before any imminent faults occur. The focal point would be on the lift door as it was identified as a subsystem that causes the most fault based on the Tele-Monitoring System (TMS) data and discussions with engineers and technicians from the partnered lift company. The report would cover the approach taken to collect vibration and current parameters, the data analysis process carried out and the results obtained. It also briefly highlights the practicality of performing condition monitoring for pre-emptive maintenance of lifts in Singapore. As no Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics (RM&D) Solution has been approved by BCA as of the time of writing, the presentation of this project was conducted in the hope of highlighting how lift systems could be monitored in the future.
