Description
Summary:The aim of this project is to develop a simulation technique that can assess the impact of large scale wind power on the operations from the cost, reliability and environmental perspectives. The simulation will be using IEEE reliability test system data for the 26 generating units and wind farm will act as generating unit 27. Using the unit commitment and economic dispatch tool allows for frequent revisions of conventional generation unit schedules based on forecasts wind energy output. Wind forecast error will be added into the simulation to examine how forecast errors will impact the studies. The studies will examine how the wind speeds will affect the wind power generation. With the wind power generation price set at zero, the studies examine how the wind power generation will help to reduce the conventional generation and the cost saving. Comparison of without and with wind generation using unit commitment will be studied to see how it plan the scheduling in an economic way. Constrains such as system power balance constraints, system spinning reserve constraints, ramp rate constraints, unit minimum up / down time constraints, unit generation constraints and load constraints can be incorporated in the unit commitment problem. LaGrange relaxation solution will be used to solve the problem. With the increasing of wind generation, we get to see how it will affect the spinning reserves. We examine how the without and with wind generation at different levels will affect the total operation costs, the total profits. How the increases of the wind speeds will affect the profits.
