Investigating the functions of alternatively spliced Kindlin-2
Kindlins are cytoplasmic proteins that function as an important co-activator for integrin activation. They are important for cell adhesion and migration. In human, there are three paralogs of Kindlins, namely Kindlin-1, Kindlin-2 and Kindlin-3. In particular to Kindlin2, the canonical Kindlin-2 (K2S...

Summary: | Kindlins are cytoplasmic proteins that function as an important co-activator for integrin activation. They are important for cell adhesion and migration. In human, there are three paralogs of Kindlins, namely Kindlin-1, Kindlin-2 and Kindlin-3. In particular to Kindlin2, the canonical Kindlin-2 (K2S) is homogenously expressed in all tissues except cells of the hematopoietic lineage. Apart from the K2S, there are at least two known spliced isoforms, namely the isoform 2 long version (K2L) and isoform 3 truncated version (K2T). To date, the tissue distributions and functions of these spliced isoforms are not yet elucidated. In this thesis, we focus on unveiling the functions and potential interacting partners of K2L spliced isoform. |
