Summary:Due to the prevalence and proliferation of telecommunication devices, the use of mobile phones has becomes more widespread than ever, causing public anxiety over the effects of RF radiation on human health. In order to examine the effects of non-thermal RF field on human health, 293T human renal epithelial cells is exposed to GSM 900 mobile phone signals for 2 and 5 hours, following which comparison is made between the protein profile of the control and affected culture mapped out by LC/MS. Combined with the results obtained by another student conducting a similar experiment at different exposure duration58, it is found that only Histone H2A and Histone H4 responded to the radiation after 10 minutes, 40 minutes, 2 hours and 5 hours exposure. The regulation of histone observed may be due to RF-induced chromosomal instability, RF-induced double strand DNA breakage and experimental limitations. The first two causes listed are deeply associated with cancers and other diseases.
