Description
Summary:Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digitalisation are becoming integrated in more and more industries in the world and the maritime industry is no exception. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of how AI and digitalisation will impact the sustainable performance of maritime companies from an Eco-Innovation perspective, with the use of the Dynamic Capability View (DCV) Theory. In this paper, the author examines how companies can utilize technological resources (i.e., digital culture, AI applications, digital marketing, and augmented reality technologies) to generate innovation. An online survey was conducted with various stakeholders working in the maritime industry a total of 120 responses were collected. After which, structural equation modelling was utilized for examination of the findings gathered. Results showed that technological resources influence eco-process innovation and eco-service innovation. Further, eco-process innovation and eco-service innovation in turns influences the sustainable performance of maritime companies. This study distinguishes itself from other literature by using the DCV Theory to discuss how companies can better make use of their technological resources to secure a competitive edge over its competitors and remain sustainable. The findings provide insights on certain managerial implications for maritime companies to implement strategies for sustainability in the market. Additionally, the study also identifies limitations that can be further explored in future research.
