This thesis aims to delve into the depiction of nature in animated films through the perspective of Text and Image Studies. It includes topics on mythical creatures and the harmonious relationship between humans and nature, exploring how these elements manifest in the films. The paper delves into the cultural implications of animal characters in films, examining their portrayal as "gods" or "monsters" and the reasons behind their positive or negative connotations. It also explores the theme of coexistence of good and evil, drawing from folk tales and Shinto beliefs. Additionally, it discusses humanity's enduring awe towards nature, analysing the directors' unique perspectives and expressions on the subject. By exploring vanishing and forgotten spaces, the paper prompts viewers to reflect on their relationship with nature. Finally, it focuses on the animation production process, including art style, colour usage, sound, language, promotional design, and intertextuality, highlighting the unique role of animated films in conveying themes and messages. |
