Drawing on existing literature highlighting the racial disparity and dynamics in STEM and in Singapore, this study aims to fill a gap in the research landscape in the context of Singapore. Employing semi-structured interviews with 10 undergraduate students, findings reveal varying perceptions among participants regarding racial influences on career progression. Malay respondents express heightened concerns about underrepresentation, industry dynamics, and racial discrimination. Indian respondents report pressures to conform to racial stereotypes, while Chinese respondents acknowledge favourable industry dynamics. Insights shed light on the complexities of navigating cultural and linguistic norms within the Singapore STEM workplace, and challenge state narratives of a meritocratic system, emphasizing the need for more inclusive practices to address systemic inequalities and promote diversity within STEM education and employment in Singapore.
