Summary: | Choosing a university major is a pivotal milestone among youth yet dropout rates and major switching continues to be a prominent occurrence in higher education. Despite this, there continues to be a lack of comprehensive resources available to guide aspiring undergraduates choose a major that best fits their future goals. Therefore, the purpose of this final year project
is to address the lack of comprehensive resources available for aspiring undergraduates to choose the best fit major for themselves with a key focus on aspiring Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) undergraduates and Information Engineering (IEM) undergraduates. This educational game, the Great Gate-Away delves into one of the fundamental topics taught to
both EEE and IEM undergraduates in their foundational years of university, logic gates in Digital Electronics. It does so in a fun and immersive manner such that even those with little
to no background on logic gates are able to enjoy the game. The Great Gate-Away is a 2D
desktop game with a pixel art design style designed using Procreate and Figma. The user
interface was designed with simplicity, consistency, and learnability in mind. Hence, buttons,
icons, and key game elements are easy to access and understand. Since user experience plays
a key role in keeping the game fun and enjoyable, clear and concise instructions were
incorporated throughout the game to guide players, technical jargon was simplified, and clear
tutorial and test levels were designed to reinforce players’ learning. Developed using Unity,
the Great Gate-Away provide an engaging and immersive learning experience that turns logic
gates into something fun and exciting for aspiring undergraduates considering EEE and IEM.
The final version of the Great Gate-Away was successfully developed to impart and reinforce
logic gates in an engaging and interactive manner. |
