Measurement of diesel particulate and its volatile organic compound

Increasing concern on health related effects related due to inhalation of diesel particulates has led to increasingly stringent legislation on particulate emissions from diesel-powered vehicles. At present, the conventional filtration method specified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)...

At present, the conventional filtration method specified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is used to determine particulate emissions gravimetrically which is integrated over a transient test cycle. But this time-consuming and labor-intensive method cannot produce real-time particulate measurements, especially during the transient engine operations. Therefore, the development of real-time particulate measurement techniques is crucial not only in providing an alternative to the tedious and time-consuming dilution tunnel procedure but also in allowing real-time particulate analysis.
