Summary: | Gene therapy was considered an important modality for the potential treatment of cancer. It aimed to correct diseases through the delivery of genetic material encoding a therapeutic protein and the subsequent expression of the transgene at the appropriate sites. The hurdle for effective gene therapy hinged on the development of safe vectors that have the ability to efficiently deliver therapeutic DNA to the targeted site. In this study, the potential applications of nano-bioceramics for gene delivery were investigated. Nano-sized bio-ceramic particles including neutrally charged hydroxyapatite (HA), negatively charged silica (SiO2) and positively charged zirconia (ZrO2) were tested. |
