| Summary: | In a modern society like Singapore, the introduction of industralisation and westernization, has caused the people are commodified into a general race group and thus losing individuality, the youths are losing their connection with their heritage and roots. They are also losing interest in their culture as they perceived them as old and traditional.
Personally as a Singapore Hakka , I have felt these effects among other young Hakkas. The Hakka encapsulates values and heritage that is worth conserving, thus I feel a need to promote such cultures to culture deficient youths, and also by doing this encouraging diversity in a commodified society of Singapore.
This paper discusses means of using graphic design as a bridge to bring across Hakka culture to the youthful audience by representing it with a refreshing way. It also explores the formation of graphic systems and its application via a cultural artifact. |
