description |
Reliability evaluation of electric power systems has traditionally been an integral part of
planning and operation of electric power systems. The changes in the electric utility industry
have necessitated the development of more realistic techniques for power system reliability
evaluation. Reliability studies are typically performed on the generation system alone, the
composite of generation and transmission systems, and/or distribution systems independently.
With the restructuring of power industry worldwide, generation, transmission and
distribution systems are financially separated to operate so as to make the competition
possible in power industry. As a distribution system is the vital link between the bulk system
(generation and transmission combined) and the customers, the reliability of distribution
system can be used to measure its performance in a highly competitive environment. The
reliability indices normally evaluated for distribution systems are the basic load point indices
and the system performance indices. |
