Description
Summary:Graphene, a single layer of graphite, has attracted tremendous interest from the scientific community owing to its remarkable properties, which make it an attractive candidate for many potential applications in the research field of electronics as well as power engineering. There are already several approaches developed by researchers to produce graphene, including Chemical Vapour Deposition and epitaxial growth methods, Micromechanical cleavage: AFM and "scotch tape” method and the Solvothermal reduction of chemical exfoliated graphene. However, these approaches mentioned above all have its own drawback and the reliable fabrication of large-area grapheme still remains a challenge. In this project, the author seeks to synthesize graphene using the well-established Hummer method in the first step, followed by the chemical reduction with the addition of hydrazine and KOH. Then, the graphene nanosheets obtained will go through a series of characterization process such as Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), in order to investigate the quality of the graphene sample attained and certain properties of graphene.
