Description
Summary:The use of the Internet for online activities has soared in the last decade. An increasing number of people spend time communicating and interacting with others in virtual environments such as social networking sites and 3D gaming worlds. To investigate the impact of virtual teamwork on collaboration in the real world, 30 undergraduate students were asked to play an online music game in groups of three. Half of the groups played against other players while the other half played in a group against another group. All groups underwent a problem-solving task and a group creativity task after the game. Results showed the experimental groups outscoring the control groups, suggesting virtual teamwork may elicit a positive effect on real world collaboration.
